Due to lack of interest.

Okay, so we tried to help make this work: Live video streaming of speakers in a secure multi-point environment that is! (In case you have just found this) But despite our best efforts to encourage use of the service there doesn’t appear to be much of an uptake.

Yes, for most events a number of people would login. However, a combination of invitations not being sent out to members, the odd technical issue perhaps (almost always human error) most events were attended and streamed well. New sdsl bandwidth at the venue helped the quality of the stream with a 1mb dedicated line some months ago.

So the service as it stands has been suspended for ICS Events. People apparently prefer to go to the event. I would be delighted to have any feedback on this subject as a “partner of the ICS”.  BTW if you haven’t seen the link to the *video on demand* option for those that missed certain events we had also just started to upload some of the latest speakers. http://www.onlinemeetingrooms.com/ics/index.php/irish-computer-society-broadcasts/

Hopefully this practice of archiving speakers video continues within the ICS. The way I see it, people are looking for more accessibility to education and training on the web and more live or recorded video content on the web (not less).

Statistics coming out of the U.S. currently indicate a rise in college enrolments due to job losses and the impact it’s having on those that have lost their *place* in society.  Ireland looks like it is going this direction too. So all universities, colleges, places of learning should be in my opinion diversifying their reach to the new e-student, broadband is in place and geographical boundaries are no longer an issue. Understanding of, how to build the relationship and grow new membership for the ICS was always the objective. Provide the options for distance learning, Remote eLearning call it what you like and they will come… Interesting times….

Disclosure: Onlinemeetingrooms.com have been an ICS partner for almost 5 years. Services have always been provided at no charge.

    Hi,

Does this mean that the virtual conferencing/video conferencing is no more? I actually was interested in it and it was a key selling point for collaboration with the IAIDQ (I was just working on getting the US focussed members of the Board of the IAIDQ to start engaging with the ICS a bit more to see how we could make more use of the tools).

Hi Daragh, for me it lacks leadership. People are definitely interested in attending online. It also of course depends on the speakers too. Prof. Joe Peppard is an excellent speaker and has had a number of seminars in the ICS. The whole point was to build an online remote audience. So for now we stop.
